August 22, 2008, Amgen announced that the U.S. FDA approved the romiplostim (Nplate) for the treatment of chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). This product is the first FDA approved peptide protein (peptibody protein), platelet count by increasing and maintaining play a role in long-term treatment of chronic diseases of the new method.
Chronic ITP is one kinds of severe autoimmune disease characterized by low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia), may cause serious bleeding.
